Prerequisites for PS-3 ACEP Certified Practitioner of EFT

Currently, our EFT trainings and certification are only open to licensed mental health practitioners and other licensed practitioners who have counseling training. We plan to create a version of this training for allied health professionals.

Document 25 client sessions using EFT exclusively (must be completed before you apply for the certification program).

Steps to Become An ACEP Certified Practitioner of EFT (ACP-EFT)

You may complete these steps in any order. (For example, you can take the ethics exam at any time in the process.)

The only exception to this: membership and the consultation/video reviews are essentially done simultaneously.

1. Become an ACEP member

2. Use this link to complete your EFT certification application (you will need to login to your ACEP account). Pay for your consultant sessions and 3 video reviews ($1,190)


Once you complete this application, you will receive an email (allow 24-48 hours) with a packet of instructions on how to move forward.

3. Choose your mentor/consultant
Contact your consultant, get their approval, then email [email protected] with the name of your chosen consultant.

4. Complete 5 hours of online, one-on-one consultation sessions *
These mentoring sessions are semi-structured and include a specific focus for each session. Each participant will be asked to demonstrate a specific skill. Students are expected to bring specific cases. These mentoring sessions may be used to give feedback about videos submitted for review or your storyboard of video 2. Bring a challenge, issue or brag.Should you need additional consultation time beyond the 5 hours, the cost will be $125/hour, payable to ACEP. The need for additional consultation time is determined by your consultant. 

5. Submit three videos for review*
It's mandatory to send your signed client release to your consultant before they review any of your videos.

1st Video: Cover the tapping points, a pre-frame, Constricted Breathing, and explain the Personal Peace Procedure. This should show that you can explain the EFT basics to your client.

2nd Video: Show the Tearless Trauma Technique and Tell The Story Technique.

3rd Video:  Putting it all together. You will include a written configuration of your individual session.

6. Complete EFT Ethics Course and pass the exam. When you have completed the course and passed the exam, the Course Administrator will sent to you via email a Certificate of Completion. The Course Administrator will also copy ACEP on the email, notifying ACEP that you have successfully completed the ethics requirement for certification.

7. Pass written EFT exam

8. Complete an additional 25 hours of client sessions ( for a total of 50 hours). These must be documented and a sheet turned in before the end of the program. Client sessions can be documented at any time after you start EFT Professional Skills 1.

9. Complete 3 hours of personal EFT work with an ACEP certified Advanced EFT practitioner. The point of this is for you to have a direct experience of EFT from the inside. This makes you a better practitioner. ACEP has arranged for a list of advanced practitioners who have agreed to charge $120-150 per session for your three sessions. ($360-450)

Important Note: Your practitioner can not be the person who is running your consultant session and doing your video reviews. Your practitioner will only be required to attest that you have completed three sessions. They will not discuss anything that occurs during your session with them as a client. 

10. Complete the required reading.

11. Submit 2 professional reference letters from colleagues who can vouch for your work as an EFT practitioner. Please have your references submit a letter on their letterhead to attest to your qualifications and ethical behavior as an EFT practitioner. The letter should be sent via email as a Word document or PDF to [email protected].

12. Sign the EFT certification contract.

Transferring your EFT training from other programs to the ACEP EFT Mentoring and Certification program

With the popularity and established reputation of ACEP’s EFT Mentoring & Certification program, we have received many requests from people, who have taken EFT training from other organizations, asking to apply their other trainings toward ACEP- certification. In order to assure that practitioners, who become certified in EFT by ACEP meet our minimum standards, we have implemented the following standard policy that is applicable to all who seek ACEP-EFT certification. While we understand that each case is unique, ACEP does not have the resources to customize transfer requests. The training organizations that are recognized by ACEP are EFT International (EFTi), EFT Universe and The Hispanic Association of EFT (AHEFT).

After considerable thought, we have reached the following principles and procedures:

ACEP recognizes the value of EFT trainings, offered by reputable organizations, completed by the certification candidate. Although there are many similarities between EFT trainings, each program or trainer is different. We’ve received repeated feedback that, even though people have already studied EFT, students benefit greatly from our program.   Our trainers have taken multiple replications of various programs to deepen their knowledge.   In the end, our goal is to have well trained clinicians to better serve their clients.

While ACEP teaches the requisite EFT skills, the ACEP program is different from most other EFT programs. There is an explicit emphasis on: Integrating EFT with a trauma informed approach Using language and training that better integrates EFT with other psychological approaches Is explicitly designed for licensed mental health clinicians and offers direction in implementing EFT into a clinical practice.

We want to assure there are as few gaps in learning as possible. In addition to the differences from other programs listed in #2, other programs use multiple trainers.  There is simply no way to know if those trainers are maintaining fidelity to their program’s curriculum.   It would require too much time and expense to assure that a person’s training was adequate.   To that end, we require all candidates to take our PS1 and PS2 trainings, at a significant discount.  This way we are assured that they have the same training as those who have completed our certification process.   We place a high priority on assuring that practitioners certified by ACEP are well trained and meet the minimum standards for our ACP-EFT certification.

For people who have taken other EFT trainings but have not been certified and want to be certified by ACEP:

the candidate must meet the following criteria and take the following actions:

  • Meet ACEP professional eligibility requirements

  • Have taken, within the last 5 years, EFT levels 1 and 2 from EFTi or AHEFT or EFTU’s  4 Day professional certification program.

  • Become a member of ACEP

  • Document 25 hours of EFT sessions with clients to begin certification

  • Demonstrate commitment to completing the ACP-EFT certification by meeting the following requirements: 1) Pay the special discounted price of $1610 (a savings of $427), which includes EFT PS1 and EFT PS2, each at a 50% discount, and 2) Complete video submissions and 5 mentoring sessions, as described in “EFT Certification Steps and Tuition” https://www.energypsych.org/page/EFTcertv2

  • 3 sessions of personal EFT with and an ACEP-certified advanced practitioner (ACAP-EFT) (additional fee of $360 paid directly to the practitioner)

  • Pass Ethics test ($125 additional fee)

  • Pass written test

  • Supply two references

  • Complete required reading

  • Have a total of 50 hours of documented hours of EFT to complete ACP-EFT certification

To achieve Advanced Practitioner Certification (ACAP-EFT), all candidates will follow established program requirements beyond ACP-EFT certification.

N.B. ACEP does not offer any discounts to just our PS1 or PS2 course for people that have already taken EFT PS1 or PS2.  The 50% discount listed above is only for people who have committed to the mentoring and certification process.

For people who are already certified as practitioners by EFTi, EFT Universe or The Hispanic Association of EFT (AHEFT):

the candidate must meet the following criteria and take the following actions:

  • Meet ACEP professional eligibility requirements

  • Become a member of ACEP

  • Pay $1125 to cover the below:

    • Supply documentation of hours and all other documentation such as references

    • In the event that the skills demonstrated in the submitted videos do not meet the minimum requirements for ACP-EFT certification, additional consultation and video submission will be required at additional cost to the certification candidate.

  • Demonstrate commitment to completing the ACP-EFT certification by meeting the following requirements: 1) Pay the special discounted price of $1610 (a savings of $427), which includes EFT PS1 and EFT PS2, each at a 50% discount, and 2) Complete video submissions and 5 mentoring sessions, as described in “EFT Certification Steps and Tuition” https://www.energypsych.org/page/EFTcertv2

  • Pass Ethics course ($125 additional fee)

  • Personal EFT sessions waived if they have documented personal EFT sessions elsewhere. Otherwise, three individual sessions with an ACAP-EFT are required at additional cost of $360 paid, directly, to the practitioner.

Steps to Become an ACEP Advanced EFT Practitioner (ACAP-EFT)

1. Complete ACEP EFT certification

2. Use this link to complete your application for advanced EFT certification.

3. Additional 50 hours of multi-session clients

4. Integrated written Case and Video Presentation ($595)

The main criteria of advanced certification are that the practitioner demonstrates advanced skills in:

  • identifying treatment goals,

  • discerning limiting beliefs & schema and discovering originating traumatic events

  • clarifying aspects of a traumatic/stressful event

  • assessing outcomes of EFT interventions and making adjustments based on those outcomes

  • tracking and managing the direction and intensity of the session

all while maintaining good rapport and engagement with the client so that the treatment is effective.

Basic certification focused on demonstrating that the practitioner knows how to perform the foundational skills of EFT.  ADVANCED certification focuses on how well the practitioner can put all basic skills together in an artful and competent PROCESS.  To this end, Advanced Certification is constructed somewhat differently than first level certification.

The student should be prepared to track the process of working with a client over several sessions from the beginning of treatment or the beginning of a section of treatment, where the client has a relatively vague complaint (presenting issue such as a public speaking phobia or anxiety) through the identification of beliefs/schemas/table tops to the identification of an originating event (table leg) from childhood/adolescence that supports those beliefs/schemas/table tops, through treatment of at least one of those legs and testing.

We would expect that this would take between 2-3 sessions. The student should video record all of these sessions (more on this in a moment). The student will be expected to present a written report documenting the presenting issue, the underlying beliefs/schemas/table tops to the identification of specific events (table legs) that support each of those beliefs/schemas/table tops. The identification of the emotional crescendos and aspects, the results of testing and follow up of at least one successfully treated specific event.

Depending on the length and number of videos, the student will either present the videos in their entirety or identify the time sequences in the various videos to demonstrate their interactions with the client. The person being presented must be a client or remotely affiliated non-client such as a friend-of-a-friend or acquaintance. (Cannot be a family member, personal friend or another student in the EFT training program)

5. 5 hours sessions of online one-on-one consultation ($695). These sessions are semi-structured and include a specific focus for each session. Each participant will be asked to demonstrate a specific skill. Students are expected to bring specific cases. You can bring a challenge, issue or brag).
